The Whistle Advertising Policy

At The Whistle, we take every possible measure to ensure that your child is viewing only age-appropriate, parent-approved content and advertisements. In order to provide our content and services free to our users, we allow third party advertisements to display on our site. Advertisements that appear on our site adhere to the Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) standards.

CARU is the children’s arm of the advertising industry’s self-regulation program, and evaluates child-directed advertising material in all media, advancing truthfulness, accuracy, and consistency. CARU has set forth guidelines for advertisers to ensure that they deal sensitively and honestly with children. These guidelines are meant to guide advertisers to assess how reasonable children would interpret their message, and eliminate misleading impressions to children. CARU also sets strict nutritional standards for food and beverage products advertised to children. The Whistle is not responsible for determining if a product or service is ineffective or makes false claims, but The Whistle will reject or remove the advertising if it knows or learns that a product or service does not meet CARU’s guidelines.
